STATUS:
Preskil Island Resort is a comprehensive hospitality transformation set on a unique peninsula between the historic village of Mahébourg and the protected waters of Blue Bay Marine Park. The project redefines the guest experience through a placemaking approach, where architecture, landscape and interiors are carefully orchestrated to create a cohesive and immersive environment. The design strategy was guided by the desire to reinforce the site’s identity while enhancing its spatial clarity and functionality. Arrival is conceived as a gentle transition—crossing the bridge becomes an introduction to a sequence of spaces that unfold between sea, gardens and built form. Each intervention is calibrated to maintain a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, allowing the natural setting to remain central to the experience. The resort is organised around a series of interconnected zones that balance openness and intimacy. Generous communal areas encourage social interaction, while quieter, more secluded spaces provide opportunities for retreat and reflection. This layered spatial approach allows the resort to accommodate a wide range of guest experiences, from family-oriented activities to more private moments.Materiality and detailing draw from the local context, combining natural textures with contemporary finishes to create a warm and timeless atmosphere. Interiors extend seamlessly into exterior spaces through terraces, shaded walkways and landscaped gardens, reinforcing continuity between indoor comfort and outdoor living.Preskil demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate a destination beyond its physical setting—transforming it into a place where landscape, culture and hospitality converge to offer an authentic and enduring Mauritian experience.
